Apple iPad
![]() | The Weigle Information Commons has 28 iPad2s available for faculty to reserve for use with their students. Interested faculty members should consult our iPads in the Classroom Pilot Program for more information, or email us at wic1@pobox.upenn.edu. We also have an iPad and an iPad2 in the Vitale Digital Media Lab which any member of Penn community can stop by and try out within the lab.
We've installed several apps for the iPad, including Dragon Dictation. ArcGIS, Google Earth, Hoot Suite, iMovie, and many more. WIC is always open to suggestions for new apps to purchase, so if you have a request, feel free to email us or stop by. Apple has also released versions of Keynote, Numbers, and Pages (similar to Microsoft's PowerPoint, Excel, and Word), and iMovie and GarageBand which increase its functionality considerably. The iPad2 has front and rear-facing cameras for photos and video, and it's thinner and faster than the original model, but it has some drawbacks as well (no phone capability, no support for Adobe Flash, and apps released so far tend to be more expensive than iPhone apps). |
