Session Descriptions

BYOG: Bring your own Gadget and Lunch! John MacDermott from SAS Computing plans to bring a time-lapse camera. WIC staff will bring, from our equipment loan collection, a DLSR camera, a Wacom tablet and a new Zoom audio recorder. Bring along something fun to share. Let us know what you will bring and we'll list it here, or surprise us that afternoon!
Google Hangout: Experience Google Hangout, a virtual meeting platform in Google+. Presented by Stephanie Miller, WIC Desk Intern. (Handout )
Evernote: Evernote is growing in popularity as a powerful way to combine personal and professional tasks, schedule and research content. Update your information from any device and stay on top of your academic and professional goals. Presented by Gary Jarvis, Reference and Instructional Services Intern. (Handout )
iPads in the Classroom: iPads can enable classroom activities in new and creative ways. Students can use iPads to take notes, share ideas, participate in polls, capture video and audio and access course materials. iPads can work well as ebook/newspaper readers, a video viewer, and a web surfing device. The iPad 2 has front and rear-facing cameras for photos and video. View our agenda from this Gadget Day WICshop or explore WIC's iPads in the Classroom web page. Presented by David Toccafondi, Vitale Digital Media Lab Coordinator and Anu Vedantham, WIC Director. (Presentation Slides )
Audience Response: Several new audience response systems have come to market recently, but what do they all do? This session will explore tools like TurningPoint, Poll Everywhere, Top Hat Monocle and LectureTools and demonstrate the features of each. Presented by Elizabeth Scheyder, Senior Instructional Technology Specialist in SAS Computing. This is not a hands-on session. (Presentation Slides )
Qwizdom: Qwizdom is one of the new audience response options we learned about at Educause. Vendor presentations may include sales-related information. Tim Sheehan from Qwizdom will present this demo. Tim writes: Whether delivering a presentation, teaching a new lesson, conducting a survey, or administering an exam, Qwizdom can help! Qwizdom software and remotes allow everyone in the room to participate and provide instant feedback to the professor.
Smart Phones: Explore a variety of new phones: Windows Phone 7, Android, iPhone 4, BlackBerry Torch and more. Presented by Jordan McClead from ISC Client Services. (Presentation Slides )
Firefox Extensions: Firefox Mozilla's powerful user-first browser. Some setting tweaks and extensions can totally change the way you interact with the Internet. Jordan McClead from ISC Client Services will share how he uses Firefox and provide some suggestions. (Presentation Slides )
Wordpress Tour: Wordpress is a professional blogging platform. Scott McNulty from Wharton Computing and Instructional Technology (WCIT), author of Building a WordPress Blog People Want to Read will provide a guided tour of its features and capabilities. (Presentation Slides ).
