Student Experiences Abroad
Penn Students and Global Engagement
This annual commons-wide event provides a forum for students to share experiences abroad. The 2009 event happened on January 29, 2009 from 6:30 to 8 pm. The 2008 event happened on January 31, 2008 from 6 to 8 pm. The 2007 event happened on April 11, 2007 from 6 to 8 pm. The event websites include presenter and international food details, videos and photo galleries.

Culminating event of the 2007 student Mashup Contest to create a trailer that parodies a well-known film. Panel discussion with Peter Decherney (Cinema Studies) and Nelson Gayton (Wharton School) moderated by Provost Ronald Daniels. The panel discussion will be followed by a viewing of top contest entries, the awarding of prizes for the best use of parody, and a reception in the David B. Weigle Information Commons.

Representatives of Penn Libraries, Critical Writing Program, Weingarten
Learning Resources Center (VPUL) and Communication within the Curriculum
(CWiC) will lead workshops to assist undergraduates with their research,
writing, presentation and organizational needs.
Course Management for Summer Session I
This workshop, designed for undergraduates, addresses the speed and
volume of summer courses, goal setting, time management and exam
preparation. It will help answer questions such as: How do I study for a test
each week? How do I keep up with my reading? How do I balance a job and
school work? Presented by Weingarten Learning Resources Center staff.

Legal Research for Non-Law Students
This workshop introduces legal materials, commentary, case law research, and
Congressional law making from enactment to codification. It has the goal of
teaching non-law students how to perform basic electronic legal research and
focuses on materials available on the University Libraries homepage and the
Internet. The workshop will consist of a mixture of lecture and hands-on
exercises. Time will be available for questions and answers.

Documentary Creation
Co-sponsored by the Council for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships
(CURF), this workshop explores the process of beginning a documentary film
project. If you've ever wanted to make a documentary, whether on zoology, the
Federated States of Micronesia, or any topic imaginable, come learn how to
get started. The presenter Jacob Finkel is an undergraduate in the College
who made his first documentary film in 2005. He is the founder of the non-profit
Corporation for Civic Documentaries, and is currently directing a documentary
on former Senator Harris Wofford (D-PA). Sen. Wofford counseled Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr., advised President Kennedy, helped create the Peace Corps, is
a powerful advocate for National Service, and was an early supporter of
Barack Obama's campaign in Pennsylvania. The film has been in production
for sixteen months and includes many interviews, including ones with Sen. Ted
Kennedy, Gen. Colin Powell, Bill Moyers, Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan,
and former President George H.W. Bush.
